Gennady Golovkin to fight Vanes Martirosyan on May 5
Unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin finally has his new opponent for May 5th when he was originally scheduled to fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez who failed on doping tests.
The Kazakh boxer will face Armenia’s Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, and not in Las Vegas, as originally planned.
Martirosyan has never been knocked out and has unsuccessfully challenged for a major 154-pound title on multiple occasions, losing decisions to Erislandy Lara and Demetrius Andrade. He has not fought since the Lara defeat in 2016. Martirosyan is trained by Edmond Tarverdyan, who is famous in MMA circles for coaching Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne.
