Anderson v Walker confirmed for UFC 244
Rising light heavyweight prospect Johnny Walker (17-3) will get his next chance at adding to his ever-growing stock when he takes on Corey Anderson (13-4) later in the year. Confirmed for UFC 244, Walker and Anderson will collide at the legendary Madison Square Garden in what is the first confirmed fight for the New York event. Derrick Lewis vs Blagoy Ivanov is widely reported to also be in the works but as yet, hasn’t officially been confirmed.
In a three-fight UFC career to date, Johnny Walker has yet to go past the two-minute mark in the Octagon. Showreel first-round finishes against Khalil Rountree Jr, Justin Ledet and Misha Cirkunov have thrust Walker into the light heavyweight melting pot.
With his explosive style, fourteen of his seventeen victories have come via TKO/KO backing up his finishing ability. This has been further bolstered by three out of three Performance of the Night bonuses since his induction into the UFC ranks.
Next in the firing line for Walker will be thirteen-fight UFC veteran, Corey Anderson. As part of Frankie Edgar’s team in the nineteenth series of The Ultimate Fighter, Anderson has been a mainstay in the light heavyweight division since his 61 second TKO win over Matt Van Buren in the TUF19 finale back in July of 2014.
With an impressive 9-3 record in the UFC, Anderson is currently on a three-fight win streak after unanimous decision victories over Ilir Latifi, Glover Teixeira and Patrick Cummins. Prior to that, Anderson suffered his worst spell as a professional when he was on the receiving end of back to back KO’s against Ovince Saint Preux and Jimi Maunwa.
UFC 244 takes place on Saturday 2nd November from Madison Square Garden, New York.
