Lineker signs with ONE Championship
Not long after his surprise release from the UFC, John Lineker has seemingly confirmed on his Twitter account that he has signed with ONE Championship. With the news breaking last week via MMA Junkie that Lineker was being cut from the UFC roster, Lineker yesterday Tweeted “I will answer all the questions out there about myself in the Ring! People will be changing the channel to watch me fight! I will continue to do what I love! Fight and put on a show!”
With a highly respectable professional record of 31-9, Lineker amassed an impressive 12-4 record during his seven year stay with the UFC. Lineker also picked up three Fight of the Night bonuses as well as a Performance of the Night following his first-round destruction of Michael McDonald at UFC Sioux Falls in July 2016
Reports seem to suggest that Lineker had fallen out of favour behind the scenes with the UFC, despite being a top fifteen ranked fighter at the time of his release.
Joining the growing ranks of former UFC fighters at the Singapore based martial arts promotion, Lineker follows the likes of Demetrious Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt in the next stage of his MMA journey. With mixed fortunes for the aforementioned Johnson, Alvarez and Northcutt in their ONE careers to date, Lineker will keen to get off on the right foot as and when his first fight with the promotion is announced.
