MVP to face Richard Kiely at Bellator Dublin
If at first you don’t succeed, keep on throwing out the bait and wait for a bite. This is the tactic used by Irish welterweight, Richard Kiely, which has resulted in a showdown against the maverick, Michael Venom Page.
After weeks of sniping and taking shots at each other via social media, the Irish Mirror broke the news this morning that the two would meet as co-main event on the Bellator Dublin card in September.
Fighting out of SBG Ireland, Richard Kiely only made his Bellator debut on the Gallagher vs. Graham card at Bellator 217 in February this year, which resulted in a first-round TKO win over Mickael Bucher. At just 3-1 as a professional, Kiely will face the toughest test of his career to date when he collides with Page in September. Having previously fought on BAMMA, Kiely’s only blot on his fight record is a first-round submission defeat to Alex Lohoré.
After a sensational KO defeat against Douglas Lima at Bellator 221 in May, MVP is ready to take to the cage again and carry on from where he left off. Coming into the fight with Kiely at 14-1, his last outing against Lima in the welterweight grand prix proved that Page isn’t invincible. The problem for Kiely, however, will be as many have experienced before him; landing a meaningful strike. With his unpredictable nature and erratic striking, Kiely will have his hands full when this grudge match reaches its final conclusion.
A comprehensive victory for the experienced Page would be many peoples first thought but, as is the beauty of MMA, don’t underestimate the underdog. Kiely will come prepared and will be ready to fight when the cage door closes. Backed by the world renowned Irish support, Kiely will be more than keen to add another dent in the previously infallible MVP armour and pick up the biggest win of his career.
Bellator Dublin takes place at the 3Arena on Friday 27th September with James Gallagher taking on Cal Ellenor in the main event.
