FFC 37: Ivan Erslan Victorious on Night of Finishes at the Fight Dome!
On an evening of solely mixed martial arts at the Fight Dome Las Vegas, fans were treated to an explosive display, with all four fights ending inside the opening two rounds.
Mike Santiago put on a brutal performance, eventually submitting Alonzo Martinez in the second round after dropping his opponent on multiple occasions.
Santiago and Martinez traded early, and demonstrated their brawling style that has yielded over one hundred fights between the two. Santiago rocked his opponent with a beautiful step-in elbow, but allowed Martinez to find his feet again. The pressure continued and again Martinez found himself hurt, with the referee taking a close look after repeated strikes from his opponent.
Martinez managed to survive the first round, but Santiago continued the second round as per the first and eventually took the fight to the canvas and landed unanswered strikes for a matter of minutes, with Martinez eventually submitting to a guillotine towards the end of Round 2.
The American will look to move to the lightweight division and look towards title contention after a stunning performance on his FFC debut.
Anderson Goncalves produced a stunning performance to stop Steve Montgomery in the opening moments of their middleweight bout. Brazil met America and both men swung wild early, with neither men looking to make it a long night. In the end it was Goncalves who delivered a stunning combination of his back foot to stumble Montgomery, before finishing him with hammerfists on the canvas. A stunning performance from the Brazilian on short notice!
In the light heavyweight division, Ivan Erslan moved to 7-1 on his third FFC appearance, stopping Roger Carroll in brutal fashion. After just over ninety seconds, Erslan dropped his American opponent with a perfectly timed uppercut, before strikes on the ground caused the referee to put an end to proceedings. The Croatian called for a title shot, and based on that knockout… who’s going to deny him!
Jake Albinio walked away victorious after a dominant performance saw him put away Alaska’s Kris Berberich inside the opening round. The lightweights have seventeen years between them, but the opening striking exchanges were well contested. The Vegas based-man then pulled off an audacious slam before pursuing the fight on the canvas, dominating in top control. After many submission attempts, Albinio began to land strikes, forcing the referee to stop the bout inside four minutes.
