Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ claims K-1 owner is a cheater and a punk: ‘He is hiding in some hole in Korea or China’
Almost five years ago now, Croatian MMA and K-1 legend, Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipović became the K-1 WGP champion when he defeated Jarell Miller, Pavel Zhuravlev and Ismael Londt in one night. The event took place in March 2013, but ‘Cro Cop’ and his fellow fighters never got their fight purses.
K-1 and its owner Mike Kim are more than one million dollars in debt. Of course, as the winner of the tournament, ‘Cro Cop was to get the biggest prize. Croatian media already reported on this scandal including interviews with other athletes who never got their hard-earned money.
However, the situation got heated up again when K-1 organized two events in Southeast Europe – in Belgrade, Serbia and Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Despite the fact that the organizers claimed that „the new K-1“ has nothing to do with the organization that owned purses to fighters, which makes no sense whatsoever, it turned out it was far from true. Moreover, the company’s owner Mike Kim showed up in Belgrade. Finding out that Kim is only a couple of hundred kilometers away, ‘Cro Cop’’s former manager and K-1 Zagreb local partner Orsat Zovko, Mirko Filipović and Dževad Poturak arrived to Belgrade. And Kim was more than surprised to see them there. After extensive conversation, K-1 owner promised them to pay off his debts very soon and asked them to be patient a little bit more.
But Kim and K-1 never paid the fighters and in the last couple of months they never answered their phones, e-mails and messages. However, they organize Grand Prix tournaments in Tokyo like nothing ever happened.
This Thursday Mirko Filipović addressed his fans and followers on his Facebook page in English, warning everybody related to the fighting sports scene to boycott Mike Kim stating that he and other K-1 finalists never got their purses.
