Charles Oliveira blames missing weight on viral infection
Charles Oliveira was the only fighter who didn’t get close to the weight limit for his upcoming bout at UFC Fight Night 50, and he blames a last-minute disease for missing weight.
Oliveira has 68 kg at the official weigh-ins and did not get to the weight limit for his upcoming featherweight bout against Nik Lentz. As a result, Oliveira now forfeits 20 percent of his purse to Lentz.
"I was sick for the past week in Brazil, and I was pretty bad when I got to the United States," Oliveira said. "I couldn’t cut weight, and I’m not feeling well to cut weight, so that’s why I missed weight. I had high fever, headache. I think it was a viral infection. But I was the one who asked for this fight, so I couldn’t withdraw."
This is the second time Oliveira failed to make weight for a featherweight bout. In September 2012 he also had issues prior to his match with Cub Swanson which he lost via first-round knockout.
