Dana White: ’America doesn’t want to hear your thoughts on Jesus’
At UFC Fight Night 70 Cuban fighter Yoel Romero scored the biggest victory of his career. After knocking out former champ Lyoto Machida, Romero crossed the line. He grabbed the microphone and started preaching about religion and Jesus.
"What happened to you, U.S.A.? What happened to you? What's going on? You forget the best of the best of the world, the name of Jesus Christ! What happened to you? Wake up, U.S.A.! Go, go back where you gone. Go for Jesus! No forget Jesus people!"
Because of his poor English many believe he said "No for gay Jesus people“, which made it all even more controversial.
Fortunately for Yoel, White said he doesn't believe the comments were controversial. He did, however, advise Yoel and the rest of his roster to keep religion out of the Octagon.
"No, it wasn't controversial at all. But the reality is this: You just won the biggest fight of your career, America doesn't want to hear your thoughts on Jesus. Keep that stuff at home; religion, politics, all that stuff. When you're out there fighting and you're being interviewed, they want to hear about the fight. It's awesome you love Jesus; love Jesus all you want. You just don't have to do it publicly," said Dana White.
