UFC 240

With all fighters making weight, UFC 240 is all set to go down in the early hours of the morning as Edmonton, Canada plays host to the Max Holloway v Frankie Edgar headlined event.

After losing what was originally supposed to be the opening fight between Giacomo Lemos and Tanner Boser due to Lemos reportedly failing a drugs test, UFC 240 now consists of 11 fights including the aforementioned featherweight showdown and the return of Cris Cyborg.

After his thirteen fight winning streak came to an end in his last outing, Max Holloway (20-4) returns to defend his featherweight title against the ever popular Frankie Edgar. Holloway’s quest to pick up the lightweight interim title ended in a unanimous defeat to Dustin Poirier back in April at UFC 236. In what will be the third defence of his  featherweight title following wins over Brian Ortega and José Aldo, Frankie Edgar is next up in the challenge to dethrone Holloway.

After failed attempts at the UFC featherweight and interim title, former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (23-6) will be aiming to make it third time lucky in his pursuit of featherweight gold. Losing to José Aldo on both previous attempts, Edgar comes into his latest title challenge on the back of a unanimous victory over Cub Swanson.

In the co-main event, Cris Cyborg (20-2-1 NC) returns to the Octagon following her sensational 51 second KO defeat to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 in December last year. After suffering defeat in her first fight as a professional in 2005, Cyborg went on a rampaging twenty-fight win streak over a thirteen year period before her devastating reign came to a crashing end against Nunes. With seventeen of her twenty wins coming by way of KO/TKO, the threat will be all to clear for Felicia Spencer.

In what will be only her second fight in the UFC, Felicia Spencer (7-0) will have to pull off the biggest win of her career if she wants to maintain her perfect record as a professional. The former Invicta featherweight champion made an impressive mark on her UFC debut by beating Megan Anderson via a first-round submission (rear naked choke) on the RDA v Kevin Lee card in May. Spencer will have to have her wits about her from the off in this one as Cyborg will be hungry to get back to her fearsome ways.

UFC 240 takes place Rogers Place, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada as is available via all the usual platforms. Check local listings for details in your country.
