Igor Pokrajac forced to cancel UFC match: “I was scared for my life”
Igor Pokrajac was to return to the Octagon in some three weeks after almost a year-long break. His last UFC match took place in Zagreb in April but last week he cancelled his upcoming Las Vegas bout due to a head injury.
Pokrajac received bad news after receiving medical documentation. „When I found out about it, I was seriously worried about my life, family and kids. There are a lot of things going on in your mind at that moment,“ said Pokrajac to Nova TV adding that he is till unfamiliar with details.
Dr Željko Kapulica stated: „The good thing is that UFC insists on these examinations while other organizations do not. It would be good they all tested their fighters. Igor is one of the toughest fighters and if that happened to him, it could happen to anyone.“
„Before each match one should do CT, MRI and echocardiography. It takes only a couple of days to do that. Some examinations are taken exclusively in private facilities. Each test should be approved by a licensed practitioner,“ said Pokrajac who will know more about his condition in some two weeks.
At UFC 209 he was to fight Ed Hedman.
„I’m sorry because I’m in great shape. I got this opportunity to fight in a big fight card. My opponent is perfect match for me. I organized it all and I’ve been preparing for a month in Miami,“ said disappointed Pokrajac.
