Kelvin Gastelum didn’t want Tyron Woodley’s money, but UFC champ wouldn’t take no for an answer
At UFC 183 Kelvin Gastelum lost to Tyron Woodley, who won the UFC welterweight title in his next bout. Before losing via split decision, Gastelum also missed weight. Woodley then said he would send back the $9,000 he pocketed when Gastelum was fined 30 percent of his purse.
“(Woodley) contacted me and told me, ‘Hey, where can I send this check?’ And I told him, ‘Man, please don’t send that check,’” Gastelum said at a media luncheon in support of his meeting with Rondaldo Souza next week at UFC 224, according to MMAJunkie. “‘Don’t. I don’t want it. I don’t deserve it.’”
Woodley did not take no for an answer.
“He looked up the gym that I trained at and sent it there,” Gastelum said. “And then I got the check, and I was like, ‘All right.’ What am I going to do, rip it up? Should I have? I don’t know.”
