Machida on Romero fight: ’I know how to fight wrestlers’
Lyoto Machida and Yoel Romero will headline The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4 which will take place June 27 in Hollywood. At this event the former UFC light heavyweight champion will look for an opportunity to return to the winning streak after he was defeated in the last match Luke Rockhold.
After failing to defeat Chris Weidman in the middleweight title fight, Machida was again successful against CB Dollaway, but then he again lost to Luke Rockhold. Now his new opponent will be Yoel Romero (9-1) who suffered no defeats in the UFC.
Machida does not worry about the fact that he is to face a former world champion and silver Olympic wrestling medalist.
"I think he is on my level. Romero is a top fighter. "Machida told MMA Fighting. "He has good wrestling and knows how to control the fight on the ground, plus, he has a lot of knockouts. He's a very complete guy, one of the hardest guys of my career, no doubt about it. But I know how to fight wrestlers, I've trained a lot and had guys like Glover Teixeira, Kevin Casey and Kenny Johnson helping me. If I beat him, I believe I will be in the mix for a title shot again."
Machida is also inspired by Werdum's path to the UFC heavyweight championship title.
"I was very happy for Werdum, he is a great friend of mine. We have trained together before and he surely is one of the best heavyweights in history. He didn't win because of luck, he dominated Cain in every aspect of the game. His victory inspires and motivates me for my fight against Yoel."
