Nate Diaz and Anthony Pettis almost ended up as headliners of the UFC 196 that is to take place at UFC 196 in Las Vegas February 6.

After the main event, that is heavyweight title fight between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez, being cancelled, Diaz offered to fight Pettis, but UFC gave up on that option.

Instead of Diaz vs. Pettis, the co-main event became the main event which means that Stephen Thompson and Johny Hendricks will now headline the event. The event also went from PPV to Fox Sports 1.

UFC 196 main event crumbled after Velasquez cancelled the fight due to an injury. Stipe Miočić stepped in as his replacement, but then Werdum was not ready for a new opponent and he also cancelled his appearance at the event.
