’TUF 19’ middleweight finalist announces release from UFC roster
'TUF 19' middleweight finalist Dhiego Lima confirms release from the UFC roster. At his official UFC debut in 2103 Lima lost to Eddie Gordon in less than a minute and Gordon became the TUF champion. After this poor performance, the Brazilian fighter switched from middle to welterweight category.
Despite the good beginning and victory over Jorge de Oliviera, which is also his only win in the UFC, Lima ended up KO'ed in his last two matches and both times in the first round (Tim Means and Li Jingliang). It was enough for the UFC leaders to release him from the roster.
“I’m no longer under UFC contract, so I’ll be taking the rest of the year off from fighting (and) focusing just on training and our gym,” Lima posted on Facebook. “I will be back fighting next year starting fresh. Thank you UFC for all the opportunities. I wasn’t able to show anything I do on all my fights in there. I need to take some fights outside, rebuild myself and come back like an animal.”
