If a weekend of MMA and combat sports that featured the likes of UFC243, Bellator 229, Invicta FC 37, ONE Warriors Series 8, ACA 100 and BRAVE CF 27 wasn’t enough for you, fear not. As well as a multitude of regional and national events taking place around the world, fight fans will be able to quench their thirst for elite fighting with another round of big international events.

Combate 46: Tucson

First up in our look ahead at the weekend in MMA and combat sports, Combate 46 kicks things off from Tucson, Arizona.

In a change to the main event, former world champion Jose “Pochito” Alday will now meet veteran Joby Sanchez. Alday was originally scheduled to face Andre Barquero who withdrew due to an injury picked up in training.

The co-main event also sees a change as Anthony “El Toro” Birchak, who was due to face Jose Luis “Puppy” Calvo, will now clash with Erik Aguilar Radleim. Calvo was forced to pull out of the fight after visa issues prevented him from being eligible to fight.

PFL 2019 #7: Playoffs

Also taking place on Friday, we see the start of the PFL 2019 playoffs. In the opening night, 8 fights are scheduled with the highly anticipated PFL debut of Brendan Loughnane kicking off proceedings.

The top of the bill will see the woman’s lightweight final determined as Kayla Harrison takes on Genah Fabian and Sarah Kaufman takes on Larissa Pacheco for a place in the final. The men’s welterweight tournament will be trimmed down to two as eight fighters compete for a place in the semi-finals and final.

RIZIN FF 19 takes place early on Saturday morning in an event that see’s the opening round of bouts in the 2019 lightweight world grand prix.

In the main event of the evening, the Czech Republic’s Jiri Prochazka takes on the Brazilian Fabio Maldonado at light heavyweight. The thirteen fight card also see’s Kai Asakura vs Ulka Sasaki, Seo Hee Ham vs Miyuu Yamamoto and Rena vs Shawna Ram.

The lightweight grand prix opening round includes an intriguing fight between Bellator veteran Patricky Freire and former Shooto, Pride and UFC man, Tatsuya Kawajiri.

Glory 69

GLORY makes a welcome return to Germany on Saturday night as GLORY 69 rolls into Düsseldorf.

In the main event, reigning lightweight champion Marat Grigorian will defend his title for the first time as he takes on Tyjani ‘The Wonderboy’ Beztati, who is taking a second crack at the world title.

In the co-main event, German heavyweights Michael Smolik and Mohamed Abdallah meet in a fight that has seen a long-running war of words between the pair reaching boiling point. On Saturday night, the pair will be able to put an end to their dispute when they collide in Düsseldorf.

After what many thought could be a tough year for Cage Warriors following the arrival of Bellator on the European scene, the London based promotion have continued to go about their business and put on solid cards throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe. Saturday night sees Cage Warriors 108 take place at the Viola Arena in Cardiff.

In the main event, unbeaten Welshman Mason Jones (7-0) takes on Finland’s Aleksi Mäntykivi (13-5) who’s previous fight on a Cage Warriors card ended in defeat to Jack Grant.

Top prospects Oban Elliott and Corey McKenna also feature on a bill that includes a Cage Warriors Academy Wales amateur card.

Bellator 230

Bellator continue with their multi-faceted approach in the European market with a three-pronged evening of martial arts taking place in the Italian city of Milan on Saturday night.

In what will be another dual card in the MMA portion of the card, the event kicks off with the return of the Bellator Kickboxing series which last featured in Genoa at the end of last year. The main event features featherweight champion Gabriel Varga and the Italian challenger, Cristian Faustino.

The MMA section of the evening will see the next instalment of the European Series which is headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between ONE Championship/Bellator veteran Melvin Manhoef and former KSW/EFC man Yannick Bahati.

On the Bellator 230 card, former Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho takes on Vadim Nemkov, who in unbeaten in his three-fight Bellator career to date.

UFC Fight Night: Joanna v Waterson

Saturday night is topped off with UFC Fight Night: Jędrzejczyk v Waterson from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

In the main event, former strawweight champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk returns to the division in which she reigned supreme for over two years defending her title on five successful occasions before losing to Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 in November 2017. Her opponent in Tampa is Michelle Waterson who comes into this fight on a three-fight win streak following wins over Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Felice Herrig and Cortney Casey.

The co-main event sees Cub Swanson looking to stop a four-fight losing streak as he takes on the unbeaten Kron Gracie in the featherweight division.

ONE Championship: Century

If Friday and Saturday’s events weren’t enough for you, the weekend plays out with the small matter of One Championship’s landmark 100th event, ONE: Century.

Taking place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, ONE: Century features no less than 28 World Champions across various martial arts. ONE: Century is also the first martial arts event in history to host two full-scale World Championship events on the same day.

Part I will be broadcast live in the United States via TNT and B/R Live. Part II in the evening, will be broadcast live across more than 140 countries worldwide. Featuring title showdowns in MMA, kickboxing and Muay Thai, ONE: Century also includes a promotion battle between Shooto and Pancrase. You won’t want to miss this one.
