Ben Askren: I want to become a star in Asia!
Former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren is to have his debut this Friday at ONE Fighting championship named Honor and Glory. He opponent will be Bakhtiyar Abbasov.
So far Askren scored 12 victories and he never left the ring defeated. He defeated the Bellator champion title four times, but he eventually left the promotion. UFC was not interested in him at the moment and thus he ended in ONE FC.
Askren will thus fight outside the US for the first time. But before he arrived to Singapore where he is to perform for ONE FC for the first time, he had to visit a couple of Asian cities for the purpose of promotion. The schedule was pretty tight, but Askren said that it is worth it.
"I've never done anything like that prior to any fight. So far I only did press conferences the day before the match when it comes to promotion, but this tour required a lot of work. However, I feel it was worth it”, said Askren.
“I am surprised how much attention they pay to promotion. When I arrived I did not know what to expect, but in the end, every hall was full with media representatives and fans.”
Judging by the way they welcomed him in Asia, it is obvious ONE FC wants to make a star out of him there.
“I do not know if I am already a star here, but I do hope I will become one after ONE FC fans see my fighting style”, concluded Askren.
